Times are hard and non-profits need help more than ever. More than a few have lost the large corporate gifts they depend on each year. As we close out 2008, here are some non-profits that I care about and that you might consider for donations.
BAD RAP (http://www.badrap.org) An organization dedicated to Pit Bull rescues and education. They rescued and rehabbed more than a dozen of the dogs Michael Vick tortured.
Pit Bull Rescue Central (http://www.pbrc.net) A national Pit Bull rescue and advocacy organization. This is the first year I’ve given to them, but they’ve been around for a while.
The Electronic Frontier Foundation (http://eff.org) advocates for free speech online. Say what you want about them, they’ll defend your right to do it.
Creative Commons (http://creativecommons.org) offers a way to license copyrighted content to allow for legal file sharing and remixing.
World Wildlife Fund (http://www.worldwildlife.org) works for environmental research, conservation, and restoration.
American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (http://www.aspca.org) is the oldest animal rights organization in the US.
American Civil Liberties Union (http://aclu.org) has been unjustly smeared by many on the right, but they’ve stood up for the rights of Americans of every political stripe.
Ecology Action of Texas (http://www.ecology-action.org/index) manages the local recycling center in Austin Texas. The recession has hit recycling centers hard, as the price of recycled materials has fallen precipitously.
Community Partnership for the Homeless (http://austinhomeless.org/donations.php). Another Austin, TX organization. Austin has a huge homeless population, and social services are very limited.
National Military Family Association (http://www.nmfa.org) with two wars going on, our service men and women are stretched thin with multiple deployments, and their families are hurting and need our support.
